Chapter 10: The Ark Family

Z's eyes fluttered open as she moaned in pain. She went to place a hand on her forehead but couldn't move. Her eyes shot open to see she was apart of a big machine.

"No...." Z muttered.

"Well look who woke up."

Z turned her head to see Kubii walking towards her.

"Kubii." Z called her name,"Listen to me, please! I made a Promise!"

"I don't care Z." Kubii told her.

Z tried to break out but couldn't. How? How was it possible for her to be lactched onto the machine?

*Flash Back*

Once Chaos Control was active back on the Island. The group re-appeared on the Ark. Shadow had Sparklie Bridle style while Rin had Z against his chest.


Haze then exclaims with big relief, "Thank goodness we're alive! I thought we were gonna die!"

"Me too... But thanks to Shadow, we're safe." Rouge said as she glances at Shadow, "Huh? Well, this is shocking..."

"I'll say... I thought she was the enemy to us." Haze said, looking at Sparklie then at Shadow, "Why did you save her as well?"

Shadow didn't say anything as he stares down at Sparklie, who's still unconscious. "...Why did I save her as well? And why did I quickly rush in to save them when Haze mention Sparklie?" He thought with a few questions floating around in his head.

"Yo! Shadow!" Rouge's voice snaps him out of his thoughts. "What's with you? Haze ask you a question and you didn't answer."

"Yeah... You just daze out on us. So... why did you save her?" Haze asked once again.

Shadow just humphs at the girls, asking, "Do you have the three Chaos Emeralds?" ignoring the question of Haze.

Haze, Rin and Rouge glances at each other with confusions, wondering why Shadow is ignoring the question.

Haze nodded at Shadow, pulling out the three Chaos Emeralds, "Well... yeah, but--"

"Good. I want you two take this tiger to a room while I put the Chaos Emeralds in the panel." Kubii told them as she grabbed the  Chaos Emeralds from Haze.

Shadow handed Sparklie to Rouge and looked at his big sister before leaving with Kubii.

"Hold it, Shadow! What will the doctor say about this?!" Rouge exclaimed, holding Sparklie in her arms.

Shadow was walking away, but stop, saying, "...Just don't mention anything about Sparklie at all."

"Huh?!" Both Haze and Rouge exclaimed at the same time, looking confusion.

"Are you saying that we're keeping her here as a secret from Dr. Eggman?" Haze guessed.

Shadow glances at her, "Yes... And if any of one say anything about her... You two won't live very long." He gave them a deep dark glare.

It made Haze shook with fear and quickly hid behind Rouge.

Rouge wasn't sure why Shadow is behaving like this, but has a hunch. "Okay... We won't tell if you won't." She shrugged.

"Y-Yeah... Our lips are sealed." Haze squeaked with fright.

Rin held Z and sighed.

"Yo Rin. As promised Your friend CJ is at Pumpkin Hill." Rouge Smiled at the Cheetah.

Rin Smiled at her and handed Z to Haze.

"Thank you." He told her and kissed Rouge's cheek as a thank you.

With in a few moments Rin left the Ark to find CJ.

*Flash Back End*

Z continued to try to get out of her grips.

"No...I need to get out! Maria...I can't break My promise to Maria!" Z thought as she struggled.

The promise replayed in Z's mind.

*Flashback*

One day before GUN's Attack on the ARK. Z walked over to Maria who was staring at the escape pods.

"Maria?" Z asked.

The Blonde human turned to Z with a smile.

"Hi Z." Maria smiled.

Z walked over to her and looked up at her.

"What's the matter Maria?" Z asked.

Maria didn't say anything but shoved Z into an escape pod.

"MARIA!" Z shouted as she turned around to see she was trapped in the pod.

She started banging her fists on the glass and ramming her shoulder into the glass trying to break it. Maria stood by the controles and looked right at Z. Tears where rolling down from her Blue eyes.

"Maria!" Z shouted at her.

"Listen Z....I want two promises from you, I beg of you, please do it for me...for a better future! For all people on that planet...give them a chance to be happy... Let them live for their dreams." Maria told the Yellow hedgehog.

"Maria." Z started to feel tears roll down her cheek.

"Second, Promise me that if you return to the ARK you won't be part of the Eclipse Cannon. Not for Evil that is." Maria told her.

"I promise." Z muttered.

"Fairfarren Z The hedgehog." Maria smiled and pulled the leaver.

"MARIIIIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

*end of Flash back.*

"I Promised Maria.." Z muttered.

"yeah Right." Kubii said and closed a metal Door.

"Kubii! KU-" Z's voice was cut off by the metal door.

"For you Maria. For the people of this Earth, I will give you the Revenge you deserve. By destroying the one who could have saved us all."

Z couldn't believe what was happening and continued to scream for her sister or anyone who could hear her. But when no one could hear her she stopped screaming and just started talking.

"I...I couldn't save you guys....Even Maria. She sent me to earth....By the time I found a...Chaos Emerald....I was already to late. I...I got back to the ARK to see...everyone gone...So...So I went to the...escape pods....hoping...no Praying....everyone got out....B-but....I found Maria...instead." Z muttered as tears rolled down her cheek.

*Flashback*

Z saw the blonde human leaning aginst the control pad.

"MARIA!" Z shouted and ran to her.

She held Maria in her arms as tears fell down her cheeks. Z brought Maria to her chest and cried harder.

"I-I...Know." Z cried.

"Chaos....H-" She was cut off by Maria wrapping her in a hug.

"Don't...Z." Maria whispered to her.

Tears rolled down Z's face as she held on to the human. Maria kissed her forehead.

"Z...could...you sing...me...how.." Maria asked

Z opened her mouth and started to sing knowing what song Maria wanted.

Step one, you say, "We need to talk."
He walks, you say, "Sit down. It's just a talk."
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came

Maria smiled and closed her eyes listening to Z.

Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Tears were rolling down Z's face as she sang. Z didn't finish because in her arms Maria passed with a smile on her face.

"MARIA!"

*End of Flash Back*

"I...couldn't save her....." Z muttered, "I'm sorry...Kubii. Shadow. And I'm Really Sorry Maria....I failed you...twice."

Z cried because she knew what was to happen next.

Meanwhile Shadow was staring out the glass window of the ark. Thinking about Maria and what Z said.

"Why so melancholy?"

Shadow turned his head to see Rouge and Haze walking up to him. He turned back away and looked outside.

"That was unexpected, so Unlike you Shadow." Haze told him, "To come and rescue us."

"But your ability to use Chaos Control sure comes in handy." Rouge smiled

"Hmph. You know I didn't come to save you. Z maybe but I came back for the Chaos Emeralds." He told them.

"And the Tiger?" Haze asked.

"That is because she was with you two."

"Yeah Right. That's not the whole story is it?" Rouge said.

Eggman coughed to get the trio's attention. Upon turning around Shadow saw that even his sister Kubii was with him.

"Everything is ready to go." Kubii smiled.

"Are you sure?" Rouge asked turning to him, "You only have six of the seven Chaos emeralds, you know?"

Shadow walked over to the Doctor and his sister just to walk pass them.

"It's more then enough...for the demonstration." Kubii smirked.

"Let's get this show on the road." Shadow told them.

Day X 18:00

Eggman's face appeared on every screen on earth.

"Mahhahahah! Citizens of Earth lend me your ears, and Listen to me very carefully. My Name is Doctor Eggman, the worlds greatest scientist and soon to be the greatest ruler." Eggman gloated, "Now witness the Beginning of the greatest empire of all time. HAHAAHAHA!"

Up in space the Ark's lower half exploded reveling a cannon of some sorts, pointed towards the moon. Meanwhile in Z's containment inside the Eclipse Cannon, Z was strapped down further. A needle with a red chaos drive was inserted on her neck. Z let out a scream as a red glow covered her whole body, the glow shot out from her towards the Chaos emeralds. From there the energy turned blue and shot out of the cannon destroying part of the moon.

Everyone on earth gasped in horror and looked back to their screens to see a countdown clock.

23: 58: 19:09 and it kept going down.

Back on the Ark, Shadow walked up to the eclipse cannon and opened a side hatch.

"What's going on with 6 emeralds it shouldn't be that powerful."

When the hatch opened Shadow's eyes widen in shock and horror. Z, his older sister, was limp.

"Z!" Shadow shouted at her and cupped her face with his hands.

Z's eyes slowly opened showing nothing but pain an agony. Shadow could feel that the Chaos energy flowing through his sister was almost gone. He got her out of the eclipse cannon and took her to the room Sparklie was in.  Once he entered Sparklie sat up in shock.

"Shadow," Sparklie asked but then saw Z, "Z!"

Shadow didn't say anything to her only set Z down in the extra bed and got the oxygen mask on her. He couldn't believe that it has happened again. He's sister was again ding because of that cannon. He took her choker and got the box that would fix it. He set it down next to her and took his sister's hand in his. He felt her squeeze his hand gently, making him relax. He let go of his sister and left the room. Where he ran into Kubii. She glared at him, which he returned.

"Why do you care about her so much?" She growled the question.

"She's our sister. She took care of us Kubii." Shadow growled back, "Why do you hate her?"

"She let Maria die." She growled.

Shadow stared at her.

"Look at the tapes from the day before Maria's death. Then You will know why I don't want Z dead." Shadow told her and walked away, "Oh and if you try and use Z as a extra source of energy for the cannon I will come after you."

Shadow walked away leaving Kubii to go to the computer room.

((Vector: Find the-*gets hit with a hammer* Me: Shut it.))

Once Kubii found the computer with the security cameras she typed in the day before Maria's death and watched in shock  at what she saw. Tears fell from her normal eye. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. She then watched the next day of Maria's death and saw that Z was about to use Chaos Heal but Maria stopped her. Kubii's legs felt weak and she fell to her knee's tears flowing down her cheek.

"I...I almost killed...her...my own sister..." Kubii cried.

She placed her hands over her eyes and cried.

"I'm sorry big sis...." She muttered.

In the door way Shadow walked over and hugged his little sister.

"Sh....it's okay." Shadow told her.

Kubii held on to her big brother and cried.

"You know...you need to tell her yourself." Shadow told Kubii.

Kubii nodded and let go of her brother to find her sister. Once she went to the room with both Sparklie and Z she opened the door to see Sparklie holding Z's hand. Sparklie saw Kubii and growled. Kubii put up her hands.

"P-please Sparklie...I need to speak to my sis." Kubii stuttered.

Sparklie was taken back by Kubii asking if she could speak to her sister. Sparklie let go of Z's hand and stepped back. Kubii walked over and touched her sister's hand. Z's eyes were weakly opened but when she saw Kubii Z tried to put on a brave face.

"H-hey....little sis." She smiled.

Kubii let tears fall and she wrapped Z into a hug.

"I'm sorry!" Kubii shouted.

Sparklie was taken back this whole time Kubii had hated Z now she was telling her she was sorry.

"I-I didn't know that," Kubii rubbed her head into Z's chest, "That you were right."

Z felt a tear leak from her eye. As best as she could Z lifted up a hand and rubbed her sister's head. Shadow entered the room and walked over to them. Kubii didn't look up to Shadow she was holding on to her sister. Shadow rubbed Kubii's hair and kissed Z's forehead. Sparklie smiled. Z fell back asleep making Kubii and Shadow leave.

"So...what now?" Kubii asked.

"We find the last Chaos Emerald and destroy the earth." He said, "that's what Maria would have wanted."

Kubii nodded and the younger siblings left to find Eggman.
